Organisational Values
Do values affect our attitudes and behaviours in an organisation?
In organisations, our values form a consensus with the other team members on what is important for achieving the organisations goals, and what is important for the welfare of its members.
With this arrangement, a small number of values form an internal, hierarchical values system of important attitudes and behaviours. Within this stable and enduring values system, group members are guided in daily routines, and their interactions with external stakeholders.
As with individual values, organisational values, too, can be change over time and through changing demands, through learning, and through adaptation to new technologies. Most often though, these changes are slow, incremental, infrequent, and limited.
Understanding values in organisations can help with:
– Improvements to the ‘Bottom Line” of a true values based organisation.
– Increased productivity through values based motivation of the workforce.
– Improved effectiveness when dealing with external stakeholders.
– Team building.
– Communication design & delivery.
– Trust development.
– Conflict resolution.
– Workforce retention.
– Workforce morale improvements.
– Growth strategy development.
– CSR engagement of the workforce.
